something about Ryan

Q. Allan Brocka speaks about replacing Ryan Carnes in Eating Out 2

EATING OUT 2: SLOPPY SECONDS

When we first started casting EATING OUT 2: SLOPPY SECONDS the big challenge was knowing we didn't have Ryan Carnes returning. EATING OUT was his first movie role. He'd gone on to make such a splash in GENERAL HOSIPITAL and DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES that we knew the first question fans would ask when hearing the sequel word was "Is Ryan going to be in it?" Them are big - ahem- shoes to fill.

Hot, talented and willing to do full-frontal. It's a tough combination to find, particularly when all you can afford is SAG scale. But add the fact that he'd have to make up for the absence of Ryan? It seemed impossible.

I remember when Ryan first walked into the EATING OUT audition. My jaw dropped. Then he did a damn good audition and I ran home and googled him. I found 3 sites. I think it was his name on a role sheet for a class or something. I had to find more about him. I was obsessed in an almost unhealthy way. It was exactly the kind of obsession I hoped our audience would feel.

How could someone this sexy and talented not have gotten a role yet? Damn, this IS a vicious town.

It turned out he had just moved to Los Angeles and this was just the beginning for him. This morning's google gives me 371,000 sites for his name. He's taken off and deservedly so, but that left us with a quite a challenge for casting the sequel.

source: http://blog.myspace.com/brocka
